PARENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM INTRODUCED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES IN SEPTEMBER 2004

At St. Margaret's Episcopal School we stress our emphasis on "Expanding the three Rs to include Respect and Responsibility." Our role of modeling behavior as parents and teachers is vital to this idea.

As a school, we have certain expectations of our students. They must arrive on-time, ready for the day and participate in their studies. We also have certain expectations of their parents. Please help us to reinforce positive behavior and be involved in your child's school. Following are what we feel to be four necessary components to this role.

Please take the time to read our Parents Handbook thoroughly prior to the start of school. The information it contains was put together for a specific reason and should be discussed with your child. Many uncomfortable and unnecessary situations can easily be avoided by reading the handbook. By students and parents knowing and understanding the rules of the school, the faculty and staff can concentrate on educating students, rather than policing them.

Every family is expected to join the School Board and Vestry in making a donation to the yearly GRIFFINS Fund. This annual giving campaign helps to offset the difference between full tuition and the actual cost of educating each student at SMES. Annual giving gifts have ranged from $50 to $25,000. We ask you to give what your family can comfortably afford without providing any type of financial hardship.

Volunteering your time to the school and students is of paramount importance. Each family is required to provide a minimum of 30 volunteer hours per each school year. Please read through the attached Parent Volunteer Program for specific information and volunteer opportunities. We ask each family to look through this list and sign up in those areas where you have an interest.

Participating in one of our major fundraising events. Whether you sit on the committee, secure a donation for the Silent Auction & Raffle, attend the event, or secure outside friends and relatives to attend, you are participating. The money raised during these events is substantial and provides much needed funds to continually upgrade our programs.

We are excited about the coming year and anxious to get under way. Barbara Gibson, our Headmistress, has an open door policy. Please contact her office whenever you have questions regarding any of our school's programs or policies.

Students who see their families committed to our school, will undoubtedly take pride in their contributions. Volunteering your time sends a clear message to your children that you value their education and their school. A copy of this list will go home in the Wednesday Weekly Wireless (WWW) packet after the beginning of the new school year. At that time, please make your selections and return the entire form to the school office as directed.

A complete list of current parent volunteers is available in the school's main Nordstrom Campus office.

St. Margaret's Episcopal School consistently exceeds the expectations of parents and students. We invite you to visit our campus to discuss your child's education future or email us at school@stmargarets.org.
